To Vape or Not to Vape?

Well, its official! The word “vape” has been selected above all others as the ‘Word of the Year 2014’ by the Oxford Dictionaries. It is now entirely correct English to explain that one is “vaping”, or enjoying a “vape”.
According to the Oxford Lexicographers, who keep watch over millions of words – from books to academic journals to blogs – out of all of this year’s nominees four little letters emerged that anyone who has embraced e-cigarettes will be all too familiar with…”vape”.
The shortlist of words was compiled from scanning around 150million English words in use each month, applying software to identify new and emerging word usage. Dictionary editors and Lexicographers, including staff from the Oxford English Dictionary, then pinpoint the final selection and the eventual winner, which is intended to be a word judged “to reflect the ethos, mood, or preoccupations of that particular year and to have lasting potential as a word of cultural significance”

                                                               wholesale vapor
Casper Grathwohl, President of Oxford’s Dictionaries Division, told TIME magazine, “Vape only really caught on a few years ago and now we’ve seen a dramatic rise.”
Usage of the word “vape” has apparently more than doubled since 2013 and has now been formally added to the Oxford Dictionary, with the definition:
Vape, a verb meaning to inhale and exhale the vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device
The selection of vape as the winning word by Oxford Dictionaries has captured the soaring popularity of e-cigarettes, which, since their introduction in 2003, have grown to become a $2 billion global market.  The word’s rise in popularity also carries undertones of technological advancement: vape has become a commonplace word because the e-cig device that seemed so futuristic (when the word was first used) is now found in most corner shops and supermarkets. Vaping has forced much of society to use the word tobacco in front of normal cigarettes – a clarification that would have seemed pretty pointless only a few years ago.

I DON’T SMOKE, I VAPE!

This acknowledgement by the Oxford Dictionary is confirmation, as if any more was needed, that vaping is here and here to stay, and represents the first credible alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes that has ever existed.
Every vaper can (and should) be proud of the fact that they vape, and that they have made the switch over to e-cigarettes.  At INSHAREVAPE we always believed ‘vape’ to be the winning word, from the very day we conceived our brand itself, so we are absolutely delighted to hear this news.
